SCULPTURE
There are a couple of projects on this page. This first sculpture is made of metal and wood. It explores the concepts of shelter and what that looks and feels like to me.

Piece 1: This first piece was a collaboration using wood and metal. We explored the concept of shelter.

What does shelter mean to you? Perhaps, protection inside, but possible violence and destruction for what is outside trying to get in. Layers of protection, some permeable, some not. Protection from the elements, from violence, from each other...

Piece 2: This next project is an exploration of my sentiments towards the beauracratization and impersonalization of the healthcare system.

I used several types of equipment in the KABK metal workshop to construct the frame for the next two pieces, including the use of the spot welder.

As well, a papier mache technique was used to cover the frame. I will follow this a plamuur coating.

This piece has lighting in the sculpted styrofoam base and to control this I started working with a microcontroller platform (Arduino-clone). You can see a tutorial for the first test in the tutorials section on this website.
I have been playing with ideas for the base for this piece. Initial testing with styrofoam, may need to be continued with other materials. I am interested in using materials in my work that might otherwise be thrown away, in an attempt to minimize my contribution to our excessive amounts of waste and trash on this planet.
